Out of Concern for Mom on Flickr.
Explained the old saw ‘Step on a crack, break your mother’s back’ the other day. Walks in the park have gotten a bit more challenging for Trajan in light of this information. Lisa’s back continues to be without problem though so, absent any evidence to the contrary, it appears to be working.

In case your lust for overpriced pub food with pretensions to gourmet hasn’t already been satiated by the Cactus Club at Burrard and Dunsmuir (about 3 blocks away), Robson St (about 5 blocks away), English Bay (about 10 blocks away) or, any of the couple dozen other locations throughout the lower mainland, fear not. The gargantuan Cactus Club on the west side of Jack Poole Plaza at the Convention Center is opening soon.
Birthday Bouquet on Flickr.
Yesterday was that day every year when my lovely wife gets exponentially lovelier. Not sure how she does it but, as the years pass, she just gets more and more beautiful. It’s now over 20 years since we met and I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have spent that time with.
Low key celebrations this year, Emperor in his summer palace at Grandma’s, Barry White on endless repeat, a fabulous dinner at Market in the Shangri-La and cocktails at home. Life is indeed good.
A test shot of her birthday bouquet taken with my recently acquired Vivitar 2x Macro Teleconverter and an Olympus OM 135mm f/3.5 on Ektar from way on the other side of the apartment (270mm focal length with the doubler). I’m pretty happy with it, there’s a lot more sharpness there than this low-ish res lab scan shows.
“Take a little off the sides” on Flickr.
Well, it had to happen eventually. For reasons we don’t quite remember, it had been decided that Trajan wouldn’t get a haircut until it was time for his second birthday.
That meant that the last 2 or 3 months, he’s looked like some sort of filthy hippie with crazy hair everywhere. Thank heavens he’s good at wearing his hat when he’s out.
It was well past time for a change though so, on Thursday last week, I packed him up and took him to see my man Peter at Crown Hair Designs on Denman Street and told him to do what was needed.
Shockingly, Trajan sat nicely for the whole haircut and, as you’ll notice when I get some new pictures posted, looks very much the handsome man he really is once again.
Disappearing Further into the Background on Flickr.
Vancouver’s Iconic Marine Building, once the tallest building on the planet outside of the USA and long the jewel in Vancouver’s Skyline is about to suffer a further indignity.
As recently as 1989, it still figured prominently on the Vancouver Skyline but, now has been fully hidden from the harbour by development in front of it. Now, the space formerly occupied by the University Club next door is to be replaced by a highrise which will block the view of the western side of the building, not to mention encroach on the most excellent Guiness Building, one of the modernist jewels of Vancouver.
Fortunately, it’s unlikely that Burrard, Cordova or Hastings Streets are going to be replaced by high rise developments anytime soon so, three sides of the Marine Building will remain visible in at least the immediate vicinity!
Bob’s Pouring of Wine, Joy and Sorrow on Flickr.
From the inaugural edition of the Bob’s Lounge Salon Series, which took place Friday Night at the BopHopShop, Max Murphy and David Mackintosh belt out their classic ‘Impregnator’. Fun was had, more pictures to follow as I’ve got time to process them.
It was an event worthy of my ever-dwindling supply of Fuji Neopan 1600.
