Introducing Fred on Flickr.
Nyana goes way back. The Emperor’s oldest friend, they even had a date on their first Christmas, the first time either of them had seen another kid.
Here she is, introducing her new baby brother Fred, just seven days old at this point. They’re already pretty tight.
Yay, Science! x6 on Flickr.
If you haven’t been following along there’s no way that you’d guess that none of the 6 kids you see here weighed over 2lbs at birth.
Had our ‘now we can call it annual because we’ve done it two years in a row’ NICU reunion at Granville Island yesterday. All the kids are doing great. Of course, with all 6 kids being fully mobile now, it was a little more chaotic than last year’s picnic but, still lots of fun.
Nicholas couldn’t make it out this year but, a couple of Trajan’s other mates from the beep-a-torium were able to make it out yesterday. From left to right: Ella, Sam, Oliver, Ben, Nyana and, of course, Trajan.
Last year’s group shot:
“Back when I was your age…” on Flickr.
Trajan tells his good mate Tycho about all the crazy changes in the world since he was Tycho’s age, lo those 8 months ago.
Tycho soaks it all in with the awe and attention of a 19 year old having his first beer at a Royal Canadian Legion, feverishly gripping their meat draw ticket.
“Back when I was your age, it was autumn! The leaves were falling. Did you hear that? Falling!”
Trajan finally got together with his dearest, oldest friend again on Monday. Nyana and him go way back, You can see her spot back in the days of the ‘Big Top’ at the NICU behind where Trajan’s IV used to hang here. They were roomies until Trajan moved back into the Favella and, then neighbours once again in the luxurious South Wing, with the private rooms and all where they had their first date on Christmas Day, 2010.
They’ve gotten together a few times since their days in the NICU but, nowhere near often enough.
Nyana’s had a harder road of it since their early days in the NICU. Pretty much just random chance, she’s gotten the bad card a couple times and got the infection that Trajan managed to avoid. So, she’s still got a machine to help her with her breathing while her lungs heal up. It certainly doesn’t slow her down much, she’s already walking like a trooper, while Trajan’s content to crawl still. In time, she’ll not need it anymore and nobody will be any the wiser.
Nyana’s a very particular gentle soul and, because she’s spent so much time in and out of hospital up until now, she hasn’t had a lot of exposure to the rough and tumble ways Trajan has picked up from the neighbourhood toddlers at the Gymboree. She enjoyed it to a point and, then it was time for us to move along and start planning for the next play date.
Fortunately, she’s doing very well these days so, the next Play Date should be pretty soon!
Oliver and Linneaus on Water Street.
Met up with friends Lisa, Oliver and their boy Linnaeus during the Jazz Fest on Water Street a couple weeks ago. Due to funding cuts, there was sadly not as much jazz as in previous years but, fun was still had.
