Always nice to bump into flickr gadfly and man about town Mike or, as he’s more commonly known in these parts: Eyesplash. A shockingly rare treat, considering we live only a block apart! Nice catching up.
addendum: Too funny, after Mike was lamenting the fact that it’s been ages since any of his photos made Explore, my photo of him goes and makes Explore the next day. Be careful what you wish for Mike! :-)
Introducing Fred on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
Nyana goes way back. The Emperor’s oldest friend, they even had a date on their first Christmas, the first time either of them had seen another kid.
Here she is, introducing her new baby brother Fred, just seven days old at this point. They’re already pretty tight.
Sometimes things work out even when they don’t on Flickr.

Whoops. Dad forgot to pull the polaroid!
23 Months Plus a Day on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
For the Penultimate entry in our “Plus a Day” series, I figured I should go all out. Everyone shoots pictures of their toddlers with a 4x5 view camera in a studio setting, don’t they?
Remarkably, it all went very smoothly. Trajan sat patiently for 6 shots this afternoon, and another 5 this evening for a total of 9 shots (Dad forgot to change the film a couple times and got a couple double exposures!)
Hard to believe that he’s turning two in less than a month. He’s become pretty much an unstoppable force in the last month and it’s all we can do to keep up. Almost always happy, he’s started to throw his weight around a bit when he doesn’t get what he wants now but, it never lasts too long. He’s my main man and my face hurts pretty much all the time from laughing.
Shot on a Linhof Technika III with a Linhof Select Schneider Xenar 150mm f/4.5 at f/11. Lit by one Elinchrom 250 Monolight through a 60cm translucent Elinchrom umbrella with a Larsen Reflectasol panel for a bit of fill on the sadly discontinued Fuji FP-100b instant film. Down to just one pack of this lovely stuff remaining. When that’s done, I think I’ll have to sit down with a nice bottle of scotch and have a long cry.
Now, if anyone’s got a Deardorff and a few hundred dollars they want to donate for October 14th, we can go all out for the final shot in our plus a day series and shoot on the new Impossible Project 8x10 film. Oh yeah, I’ll need a processor too! :-)
Chelsea on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
It was a very busy spring. All sorts of projects in motion that will start to bear fruit in the coming months but nowhere near enough time behind the camera for my liking so, it was a real pleasure to shoot Chelsea’s portraits yesterday.
I’ve known her since the heady days of the Passion House Café on Thurlow a lifetime ago but, we had lost contact until recently. I was most pleased when she contacted me to commission her portrait and, we spent a lovely afternoon taking pictures and catching up .
Toddler Parkour on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
Recently, Trajan has become a most eager participant in the underground sport of Toddler Parkour. He’ll climb just about anything.
Practising her ‘You will do anything I command. IMMEDIATELY!’ Face on Flickr.

Trajan’s dear friend Nyana is pretty darn good at the whole ‘being a girl’ thing, as she demonstrates here.
She’s also pretty darn good at the whole ‘breathing’ thing now too, having almost entirely shed the extra gear that she brought home from the NICU to help her lungs heal. During the daytime at least she’s now completely untethered at last.
Not that the tethers slowed her down at all. Out of Trajan’s posse, despite having the most problems getting her lungs all cleared up, Nyana was walking months before any of the boys and is even starting to talk quite a bit.
It is lovely to see her without the apparatus, Trajan and her had a lot of fun in their two play dates last week despite what one might think from seeing just this image. A stern taskmaster, she spurred him on to finally walking almost all of the time, he’s been screwing around on this front for some months now.
The flip side of course is that now Trajan has since taken to running as wellf so Dad’s life has gotten a lot busier.
The Humble Frenchman on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
On the occasion of his ensuring I didn’t get kicked out of the house by Lisa for having too many cameras (he bought my OM-2n to make room for the OM-4 I picked up at the swap meet), Arnaud was the model of humility.
A gentleman’s gentleman, despite what you may have heard, he’s currently somewhere up north breeding an army of Ent’s with which to wreak his horrible vengeance upon the world.
Glad I’m on his good side!
Instant Koala Punk on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
Despite my best efforts to ensure the Koala Punk has a rounded knowledge of photographic history, I was shocked to realize today that he had no idea what a polaroid was nor that it was possible to have a camera larger than his head. Even the concept of an instant photo was entirely foreign to him. And, a flash that plugs into the wall?!?
Well, this could simply not stand. Out comes the Linhof, a pack of Fuji FP100c goes into the back, the Elinchrom is fitted with an umbrella and, voila…he knows what all of those things are now.
He’s sleeping now, allowing me to get the scans done. The hard part is, which of the prints do I send him home with…

Mike was nice enough to lend me his M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 lens to play around with.
Whether he gets it back or not is yet to be determined. ;-)
Rather a spiffing lens that one. I certainly know what I want for Christmas now.
