Probably the best thing about having a kid is that they don’t let you get down for too long. Especially when the weather’s good.

Explained the old saw ‘Step on a crack, break your mother’s back’ the other day. Walks in the park have gotten a bit more challenging for Trajan in light of this information. Lisa’s back continues to be without problem though so, absent any evidence to the contrary, it appears to be working.

Just two wild and crazy guys at a swing party. Despite appearances, they were actually having a grand old time. Trajan’s mate Tycho is part of our exclusive club of toddlers named for significant but not particularly well known figures in history. Their good friend Linnaeus wasn’t along on this day.

Trajan was just settling down for his last sleep in captivity. My, how the time flies, his 118 days in the NICU now positively dwarfed by his 730 days on the outside.

Cake? At Bedtime? On a Monday? Trajan was understandably suspicious but, if ever there was a Monday for cake at bedtime, this was it. Not only did he get sprung from Children’s Hospital yesterday to continue his recovery from the flu at home but, had things played out the way they were expected to a couple years ago, today shoulda, woulda, coulda been his second birthday!
Of course, he did the math in utero and figured out that if he lounged around in Mommy until he was expected in January, he ran the risk of getting combined birthday/christmas presents, he’d miss out on a Halloween and a Christmas and, more importantly, we’d have to wait another 13 weeks to meet him. I’m not entirely certain that I agree with his logic here but, I’m not entirely certain that I could’ve waited that extra 13 weeks myself.
Oh, and GET YOUR FLU SHOTS!

And, now we bring this little series to it’s logical conclusion. Trajan is no longer a baby. Monthly updates are no longer relevant.
I’ve tried to duplicate our first entry in this series but, well, a 34” and 33lb toddler is nowhere near as easy to catch lying down as a 2 lb infant born 13 weeks before he was supposed to. He certainly does love his Mom though!
For some additional perspective, the first of this series was taken from approximately 18” away. This shot was taken with me standing on tip toes on a chair with my head brushing the ceiling!

Yesterday was Trajan’s second birthday. Astonishing how the time passes.
Here he checks out the heft on his new weapon, er, cylindrical food preparation utensil used to shape and flatten dough bright and early yesterday morning.
Quite the journey so far and, it appears to be just starting to enter the fun stage. Don’t know that I can sum up my feelings any better than I did yesterday on facebook:
“Two years ago today approximately 30 highly trained professionals gathered together in an operating room at BC Women’s Hospital to, after 26 weeks of pregnancy, deliver us and a 900-ish gram bundle into a surreal world of flashing lights, beeping machines, wires and tubes where, over the course of 118 days 87 different nurses, a dozen or so doctors and a blur of respiratory therapists ensured that today, just two years later, nobody would ever guess any of that happened unless we told them.”

Trajan’s mostly thankful for his awesome cousins this Thanksgiving like his main man here, Dylan who scored major points by (along with his Mom and Sister) giving Trajan an early birthday present of a huge dump truck.
Dad’s thankful that the coming week is much less busy than the last few have been so that I can finally get to processing the mountain of film waiting in my in box.
